Nearest postcode : OX29 6SL
We are in a farm woodland just outside North Leigh, Witney, Oxfordshire
You will find us opposite North Leigh Football Club & Eynsham Hall on the A4095 - our entrance is a bit hidden looks like a farm track marked as a footpath.
Parking near the woodland is very limited so it would be great if you could walk or cycle
We welcome all ages into the woodland, however some of our more adventurous activities do have age restrictions, please check before you book. Children are not to be left unattended unless the activity or event specifically states that an adult does not need to be present.
Children under 18 will need a signed consent form to take part in activities. You can download one here
We have rustic bench seating, you might like to bring your own camp chairs.
You might also like to snuggle under a blanket around a campfire.
A torch is a good idea, particularly if your children want to play in the dark.
Please do not bring your own food and drink
Keeping legs covered all year around protects from bites and stings. The woodland does have a lot of nettles.
A warm jumper / jacket
It is a good idea to bring something warm all year around. It is often cooler under the trees. It colder weather please wrap up warm - it is always better to take layers off than it is to be cold!
Always a good idea - this is the UK after all!
Sturdy trainers, shoes or boots
The woodland is relatively flat but the ground is uneven and there are felled tree stumps. When taking part in activities sturdy footwear and not sandals are strongly recommended.
Well behaved and friendly dogs are welcome, but note that there are resident deer and other animals in the woodland so they must remain on a lead at all times. Please pick up after your dog too.
Under current guidelines your group cannot be more than 6 people. Our campfire shelters are well spaced apart. Please remember to stay 2m from other guests.
Campfire sausages are usually ready around 8pm and they are served from a central point - shelter by shelter. We offer a vegan and gluten free alternatives - but please notify us in advance as we do not keep stock on-site and bring fresh food in each day. Once everyone has eaten their sausages we bring the smores & hot chocolate to you.
We do have a bar selling a small range of beers, cider, wine and soft drinks. You can also purchase some additional snacks and 'magic fire' that changes the colour of your campfire flames.
Play in the woods
We have a giant swing and there are usually dens to play in - and they can make their own. However, please note that the dens are built by children, so they are not particularly sturdy.
Please avoid activity areas
Please keep your children away from our rifle shooting area (behind the canvas walls) and encourage them to keep distant from other guests.
Please make sure that your children behave safely around the fires, we are happy to give fire safety talks. If we see dangerous behaviour we will ask that it stops and we reserve the right to ask people who don't keep their children or everyone else in the woodland safe to leave.
The camp area is fairly sheltered by the trees for a mild shower. All cover is canvas or parachutes. Our shelters are fire retardant so it is OK for fires to be inside the shelters on wet evenings - so you can sit under cover.
It isn't safe to be under trees in high winds and we may need to cancel events when the wind is strong. If we need to cancel an event you will be offered an alternative date.
For light snow it is likely that activities will go ahead - please dress appropriately for being outdoors in the snow. If we need to cancel due to heavy snow you will be offered an alternative date.
If you can't attend your booked event because of Covid-19 - please let us know and we will offer you an alternative date.
We are trying to keep the wood as natural as possible to retain its charm. The ground is relatively flat but it is uneven and there are some trunks from felled trees to watch out for
We do have a toilet and hand washing facilities, we don't have a baby changing unit but we are happy for babies to be in the wood and for alfresco nappy changing.
Shelters without electricity
All of our accommodation is canvas - we do not have a building and there are no phone charging facilities. We do not have mains electricity or gas - so some things take a little longer
All Fat Squirrel Outdoor staff are first aiders and we have first aid facilities
